How much is the charge?
Q.How much is the Energy Optimization Program customer charge?
A.The charge varies based on the type of customer.
Residential Customers - $0.01695 (one point seven cents) per Ccf. This equates to approximately $16 per year for an average residential customer.
Commercial Customers
For a small commercial customer – GS 1 – the cost is $6.24 per month
For a medium commercial customer – GS 2 – the cost is $6.24 per month
For a large commercial customer – GS 3 – the cost is $6.24 per month
Transportation Customers
TR-1 $90.79 per month
TR-2 $90.79 per month
TR-3 $90.79 per month
Q. What is SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company going to do with this money?
A. SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company will turn this money over to, Efficiency United, to design and offer Energy Optimization programs for SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company customers. Please visit www.efficiencyunited.com for more information.
Q. Who is Efficiency United?
A. Efficiency United was created by the Michigan Community Action Agency Association (MCAAA) to administer energy optimization programs for several utilities in the state. MCAAA was selected by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to be the Independent Energy Optimization Administrator.
Q. What is the goal of this program?
A. The goal of the Energy Optimization Program is to promote energy conservation and provide resources to help customers use energy more efficiently. Customers who choose to take advantage of these programs are likely to use less energy and consequently their energy bills should be lower.
Q. Will this money be used only for SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company customers?
A. Yes. The money collected from SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company customers will be used for programs developed for SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company customers.
Q. How much money overall will SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company collect for this program?
A. Between July 2009 and December 2011, SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company expects to collect approximately $14 million for energy optimization programs. All money collected will be provided to Efficiency United.
Q. Who determines the chargeable rate?
A. Public Act 295 was specific about how to calculate the chargeable rate for SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company’s customers. Ultimately, the MPSC approved the chargeable rate, similar to how they approve all regulated charges. Those charges were spread across all customer classes based on consumption.
